What are AI SDR tools?
An AI SDR tool is an AI agent that runs top-of-funnel outbound work with less human input. You describe your ideal customer, connect a mailbox and a LinkedIn account, and the agent finds leads, writes personalized messages, handles replies and books meetings on your calendar.
Most products on the market fall into three types:
- Autonomous AI SDR agents: standalone products that run the full loop from prospect search to booked meeting, usually priced as a flat monthly fee.
- AI layers inside sales engagement platforms: AI agents added to an existing sequence tool, where the AI drafts campaigns or handles replies but your sequences still do the sending.
- AI copilots and assistants: tools that write icebreakers, research accounts or draft messages for a human rep to send. Several outreach tools now also offer MCP servers so assistants like Claude or ChatGPT can build lists and draft campaigns.
Inranked has not yet published a review of a standalone AI SDR product. More reviews in this category are coming, and this guide will link them as they go live.
How to choose an AI SDR tool
1. Approval mode and human control
Check whether you can review every message before it is sent, and whether you can switch between approval and automatic modes per campaign. This is the single most important feature, because the AI writes in your name.
2. Prospect data source
An agent is only as good as its lead list. Ask where contacts come from (a built-in B2B database, Sales Navigator searches, CSV or CRM imports) and how emails are found and verified.
3. LinkedIn execution and safety
If the agent acts on LinkedIn, find out how it connects (cloud session or browser extension), what daily limits it enforces and whether every step can be made manual. AI does not change LinkedIn's rules on automation.
4. Reply handling and knowledge base
Good agents answer replies from a knowledge base you supply: product facts, pricing rules, objections and when to hand off to a human. Test how the agent behaves when a prospect asks something outside that knowledge base.
5. Channels covered
Some agents work only on email, others add LinkedIn messages, call tasks or SMS. Match the channel mix to where your buyers actually respond.
6. CRM and calendar integration
Meetings the agent books should land in your calendar and CRM without manual copying. Look for native HubSpot, Salesforce or Pipedrive sync and real-time calendar checks.
7. Pricing model and contact limits
Flat-fee agents are often tiered by active contacts, so the real cost depends on how many people you plan to reach each month.

Human oversight: why AI SDRs still need a person
An AI SDR does not remove responsibility. Every message goes out under your name, your domain and your LinkedIn profile, so mistakes cost you reputation, not the vendor.
- Start in approval mode. Review every message for the first weeks. Reply.io's Jason AI, for example, offers an approval mode where you check each message before it is sent, and our review calls it the safer starting point.
- Keep LinkedIn volumes low. LinkedIn's User Agreement does not allow third-party software that automates activity on the site, and accounts that use such tools can be restricted. An AI agent sending messages is still automation.
- Write the knowledge base yourself. Define what the agent may promise, which questions it must hand to a human and which accounts it must never contact.
- Audit samples weekly. Read a sample of sent messages and replies each week, check for factual errors and off-brand tone, and tighten prompts.
- Own data compliance. If you contact people in the EU or UK, you remain responsible for having a lawful basis and honoring opt-outs, whatever the agent does.
Pricing: what to expect
AI SDR pricing differs from classic per-seat outreach tools. The main models are:
- Flat monthly fee tiered by active contacts. Reply.io's Jason AI starts at $500 per month billed annually ($800 monthly) for 1,000 active contacts, with a Growth tier from $1,500 per month on annual billing and unlimited users.
- Per-client agency pricing. Reply.io lists an Agency AI SDR plan at $500 per month per client, which includes LinkedIn and email automation.
- AI as a paid add-on. Skylead sells its AI SDR and AI data enrichment as add-ons on top of its $100 per seat per month All-in-one plan, so budget for them separately. See our Skylead review.
- AI included in a seat. Some sequence tools bundle AI agents into regular plans. Lemlist's current plans include lemAgent for building campaigns and writing messages; its Multichannel plan is $87 per month billed yearly.
Remember the hidden costs: a Sales Navigator subscription is billed separately by LinkedIn, and data credits or extra mailboxes are often extra. Check the deals page for current discounts.
Mistakes to avoid
- Switching on fully automatic mode on day one, before you have read what the agent writes.
- Feeding the agent a vague ideal customer profile, which produces broad lists and generic messages.
- Comparing only headline prices without counting contact tiers, add-ons and Sales Navigator.
- Running the same LinkedIn profile in an AI SDR and another automation tool at the same time.
- Expecting an agent to fix a weak offer. AI scales your message; it does not make it better.
- Skipping a CRM connection, so booked meetings and replies never reach your sales team.
